TWA Flight Center was opened in 1969 as the original terminal designed by Eero Saariner for Trans World Airlines. Known for the 'Tulip Chair', Eero Saariner originally designed the terminal in a prominent wing-shaped shell roof over the main terminal and had a futuristic tube-shaped corridors in plush red carpet. This timeless design is engraved so permanently in me, through old photographs, I cannot imagine it being demolished as it once was thought be. It's currently being renovated and New York State governor Andrew Cuomo confirmed that the Saarinen building will be converted into a new on-site hotel for the airport's passengers. I hope the conversion design retains the essence of Saarinen design.
